  President Bola Tinubu has suspended the chairperson of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa. The suspension, which is indefinite, was contained in a statement released on Wednesday night by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The statement signed by Willie Bassey said the suspension is to allow for a proper investigation into his conduct while in office. The National Population Commission on Friday, clarified, that the criticisms over the postponement of the 2023 Population and Housing Census, which was widely believed to be due to insufficient funds, was misinterpreted. The Commission explained that contrary to such insinuations, the NPC postponed the census exercise to save Nigeria from a national crisis. The Federal Commissioner in Plateau State, Mrs Cecilia Dapoet made this disclosure on Friday during a meeting with stakeholders in Jos, the state capital.   Godwin Emefiele, Suspended CBN Governor. The battle for freedom has begun for the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele. He was arrested by DSS on Friday. The arrest was reported shortly after President Bola Tinubu suspended Emefiele. According to the president, Emefiele was suspended due to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy. Prior to Emefiele’s suspension, the DSS, on December 7, 2022, in an exparte application with reference no: FHC/ABJ/CS/2255/2022, sought an order to arrest the CBN Governor. The security agency accused Emefiele of financing terrorism, fraudulent activities and economic crimes of national security dimension.
