Where will Tinubu get money to run Nigeria?

Image
As Nigeria moves closer to the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration amidst severe economic woes, experts have continued to air their views regarding the best way forward for the incoming government. Top on the discussion is the fuel subsidy conundrum. Most economists believe the removal of fuel subsidies which is long overdue will boost the economy, advising that certain things must be put in place first. As it stands, the Buhari administration has failed to remove the fuel subsidy even though it said it only postponed its removal. According to the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, the government did not suspend plans to remove fuel subsidy but expanded the committee to involve teams from the incoming government and state governors. While reacting to the impact of sustaining petrol subsidy, the Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki said the federal government may not be able to pay workers’ salaries beyond June 2023 without resulting t...

They explained to him that it was his kidney that he was to donate. He asked them what was kidney. Initially, the doctors thought it was a question of language, since David’s English was not good enough. However, they eventually understood that David did not know which human organ was called kidney. In other words, he did not know what organ he was to give Sonia. That led the doctors to conclude that the procedure was not well-explained to David and that is the umber one requirement by law. NAFDAC also said the importation of Indomie noodles into Nigeria had been banned for many years and the products were on the prohibition list. This is following the detection of a compound called ethylene oxide, a potentially cancer-causing substance in Indomie’s “special chicken” flavour noodles by health officials in Malaysia and Taiwan. Both Malaysia and Taiwan have recalled the product. Meanwhile, the makers of Indomie noodles, Indofod, defended the safety of its products, saying all instant noodles produced by the ICBP in Indonesia were processed in compliance with the food safety standards from the Codex Standard for Instant Noodles and standards set by the Indonesian National Agency for Drug and Food Control. “ICBP has exported instant noodles to var...

Census: NPC suspends ad hoc staff payments

Image
The National Population Commission has said it will not proceed with the payment for ad hoc staff since they will not be engaged in any field work after the indefinite postponement of the 2023 census. The NPC Census Manager, Dr Inuwa Jalingo, said this during a media chat in Abuja on Sunday. He also noted that for those who would be engaged online, the commission will likely provide for their data costs. “Payments for functionaries are pay-as-you-go. We cannot pay field functionaries for work not done. The budget for the census is based on the fact that you are going to work, and every day you would have an amount of money to be paid to you. “As long as they are not engaged in the work, they are not going to be paid. For those that we are engaging online, we will provide their data cost to ensure that they participate in the online training,” Jalingo said. He further noted that the commission was technically ready to implement the census and that preparation for the exercise continues....
