Image
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged the Federal Government to immediately instruct the Nigerian Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) to withdraw the just released pricing template to allow free flow of discussions by the parties. According to Ajaero, government cannot in one breathe be talking about deregulation and at the same time fixing the prices of petroleum products. “We are worried that the Government through the NNPC despite the ongoing meeting of stakeholders in the Oil and Gas sector to manage the unilateral. “But unfortunate announcement by the President to withdraw subsidy on petroleum products, went ahead this morning to announce a new regime of prices under a new pricing template. “This is an ambush and runs aga

Good riddance, Buhari: You came, you saw, you failed woefully! ---By Olu Fasan

Image
MUHAMMADU Buhari, president of Nigeria since 2015, will leave office on Monday, May 29, after eight disastrous years. The late Chief Bola Ige famously coined the phrase, “good riddance to bad rubbish”. That, truth be told, is the best way to describe the exit of Buhari, his presidency and his government from power. For the past eight years of Buhari’s administration have been an unmitigated failure; a monumental waste of time, of resources, and of the hopes and aspirations of a nation and a people. True stewardship is leaving a place better than one found it. But Buhari is leaving Nigeria far worse than he found it in 2015. On any metric, Nigeria sunk deeper into an abyss under Buhari. Without a doubt, he’s the worst civilian leader Nigeria has, so far, had! No previous civilian president showed such aloofness, such indifference, such arrogance and such utter lack of competence and vision in governing Nigeria. None! Before becoming president in 2015, Buhari had been a military head o

Gbajabiamila before adjourning Wednesday plenary had asked that Order Paper for Thursday be made lighter, informing that the commissioning programmed to be done by President Muhammadu Buhari was fixed at 3pm. The speaker therefore asked the Chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Business, Hon. Hassan Fulata ensure the Order Paper would not be heavy with activities. At that point, the Deputy Speaker, Wase said that the House’s primary function was lawmaking, stressing that commissioning of NILDS headquarters was not sufficient reason to adjourn the House early

If it is not today, it must be tomorrow,” Obi was quoted as saying by Daily Trust.  “Other people who want to be, should come and tell us what they want to do, and how to do it. This is my country, I don’t have dual citizenship. If anyone thinks I am going to run away from Nigeria, they are lying. “I have three engagements in Anambra and Lagos today. I will be speaking in Lagos tonight. We will not leave Nigeria. I am not in a hurry to become the p

May 29: Peter Obi’s request unconstitutional; Tinubu must be sworn in — LP’s Lamidi Apapa

Image
The Lamidi Apapa-led faction of the Labour Party has distanced itself from the calls for an interim government and the agitations that the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, should not be sworn in on May 29, pending the determination of the petitions before the Presidential Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja. The faction of the party, noted that the swearing-in of Tinubu “may not have any impact on the ongoing legal tussle on the presidential election involving our party, APC and INEC.” LP in a statement made available to Vanguard in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, by the faction’s spokesman, Abayomi Arabambi, posited that the Electoral Act and the Constitution of Nigeria did not give room for a vacuum, “so whether the President-elect is sworn in or not, there is right to remove him legally if it is found out that he was not duly elected.” Arabambi recalled how the Court removed Chris Ngige and confirmed Peter Obi as the Governor of Anambra State in 2003. Breaking: Messi agrees move to Saudi Arabia

We are just finalising some small details,” added the source, who is not athorised to speak to media. Asked about the comments, Messi’s current club Paris Saint-Germain simply noted he remains under contract until June 30. A separate PSG source said: “If the club had wanted to renew his contract, it would have been done earlier.” The 35-year-old World Cup winner was suspended by Qatari-owned PSG last week for an unauthorised trip to Saudi, where he is a tourism ambassador. Messi’s expected arrival in the oil-rich kingdom follows in the footsteps of his arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr in a massive deal in January. Ronaldo’s agreement to June 2025 is said to total more than 400 million euros ($439million), making him the world’s highest paid athlete according t

However, in reaction, the player’s father debunked the reports, adding that no agreement verbally or otherwise had been reached.    “There’s absolutely nothing agreed with any club for next season,” Jorge Messi, who also represents his son, said. “We will decide at the end of the season. Nothing is signed, agreed or verbally agreed. Only fake news using Leo’s name.” Messi is already under contract with Visit Saudi in a deal that sees him promoting the Kingdom’s tourist destinations. She has been awarded a total of $5m in a payout after a unanimous verdict was reached by the nine jurors in less than three hours. Both sides delivered closing arguments in a Manhattan courtroom on Monday, with Ms Carroll’s lawyer Roberta Kaplan saying: “In a real sense, Donald Trump is a witness against himself.” Mr Trump’s attorney Joe Tacopina countered that while the former president’s “grab ‘em by the pussy” comments in the infamous Access Hollywood tape are “rude” and “gross”, he claimed “that doesn’t make Ms Carroll’s unbelievable story believable”. The apex court held that since it was not in dispute that the BVAS contain a record of accredited voters, “it is,

Tinubu seeks dismissal of APM’s petition, says it lacks merit

Image
The President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has asked the Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, sitting in Abuja to dismiss a petition the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, filed to nullify his election victory. Tinubu, through his team of lawyers led by Chief Akin Olujinmi, SAN, maintained that the petition was bereft of merit and substance. The APM had in its petition marked: CA/PEPC/04/2023, contended that the withdrawal of Mr. Ibrahim Masari who was initially nominated as the Vice-Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, invalidated Tinubu’s candidacy in view of Section 131(c) and 142 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended. The party argued that there was a gap of about three weeks between the period that Masari, who was listed as the 5th Respondent in the petition, expressed intention to withdraw, the actual withdrawal of his purported nomination, and the time Tinubu purportedly replaced him with Senator Kashim Shettima. It further argued that Tinubu’s candida
