  The Presidential Election Petition Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned further pre-hearing session on the petition the Labour Party and its candidate, Peter Obi filed to nullify Tinubu’s election victory, till Wednesday. The court equally fixed the same date for another petition by the Action Peoples Party, APP, while it adjourned the case of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, till Tuesday. While adjourning the cases, the court urged the parties to identify all the witness statements and documents they would rely on or object to during the actual hearing of the petitions. The Minority caucus of the incoming 10th House of Representatives made up of seven opposition parties has mocked the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, over its “confusion” on the choice of candidate for the speakership and vowed to exploit the loophole to produce presiding officers of the House. This is coming as the South-East caucus of the Senate urged the APC and the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to allow the zone to produce the Senate President to ensure equity in the 10th Senate. Currently, there are no fewer than 10 APC members-elect jostling to become the next House of Representatives speaker. Sen. Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta. The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has dissociated itself from the endorsement of Sen. Godswill Akpabio for Senate Presidency by Coalition of Northern groups. Alhaji Musa Saidu, a member of the ACF said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja. Saidu, also the leader of the Arewa Community in Southern Nigeria, said that endorsing Akpabio for the Senate Presidency would spell doom for Northern Nigeria. “We hereby dissociate ourselves from the endorsement of Sen. Godswill Akpabio for the Senate Presidency by a coalition of Northern groups. “The Coalition is not speaking for the North, it is just speaking for itself. “No true Northern group will want to endorse Akpabio for a sensitive position like that of Senate President because he is not friendly with the North. “We are the people who know Akpabio, because we are resident in the South, we know those who are friendly with the Northern people and Akpabio is actually not one of them, ” he said...

  As Nigeria moves closer to the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration amidst severe economic woes, experts have continued to air their views regarding the best way forward for the incoming government. Top on the discussion is the fuel subsidy conundrum. Most economists believe the removal of fuel subsidies which is long overdue will boost the economy, advising that certain things must be put in place first. As it stands, the Buhari administration has failed to remove the fuel subsidy even though it said it only postponed its removal. According to the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, the government did not suspend plans to remove fuel subsidy but expanded the committee to involve teams from the incoming government and state governors.
