Tinubu’s son speaks on incoming administration, assures renewed hope

  Seyi, Son of Sen. Bola Tinubu the President-elect, has assured Nigerians of a better country and a renewed hope in the incoming administration. He gave the assurance on Saturday in Abuja when he joined other supporters and admirers of his father at the Day 34 of the pre-inauguration hangout. Recall that the daily pre-inauguration hangout which began on March 26, was organised by a political pressure group, Patriots in Defense of Democracy. Seyi, who arrived at the Unity Fountain, venue of the hangout along with his team, was ushered in with various scintillating cultural displays. Court declines request to halt 2023 population census

  A federal high court in Abuja has declined an application seeking to halt the 2023 census. In March, the federal government announced the 2023 population census would commence on May 3 and end May 5. Omotuyi Ademola had approached the court with an ex parte application seeking the postponement of the census for another six months. He prayed the court to declare that the commission is currently underfunded and therefore unprepared to conduct a credible, effective and constitutional census. However, Inyang Ekwo, presiding judge, refused to grant the motion ex parte. Instead, the judge asked the applicant to put the defendant, National Population Commission (NPC), on notice. Ekwo said the NPC should appear in court to show cause why the applicant’s motion should not be granted. He adjourned the matter until May 5. In a related motion, the court granted an application by Victor Opatola, counsel to Ademola, seeking leave to apply for an order of mandamus compelling the NPC to furnish him

The National Economic Council, on Thursday, in Abuja, said it has agreed that petrol subsidy should “not be removed” as earlier planned for June 2023. The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, disclosed this to State House correspondents shortly after the valedictory Council meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Ahmed said the Council agreed on the need for continued discussions on the issue adding that the FG, together with states and representatives of the incoming administration, require more preparatory work.
