Local Government Autonomy: COPPYSM Unites with ALGON, NULGE, CSOs, NUT, NLC And Other Key Organizations in Historic Push for Local Government Administrations.

The Coalition of Political Parties Youths and Students' Movement (COPPYSM) is excited to announce its partnership with several prominent organizations in a concerted effort to advocate for local government autonomy in Nigeria. Joining forces with the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), this coalition is poised to drive significant reforms aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of local governance.

The Importance of Local Government Autonomy

Local government autonomy is crucial for fostering effective and responsive governance. It empowers local authorities to manage resources, make decisions tailored to the unique needs of their communities, and address local challenges more efficiently. By advocating for greater autonomy, this coalition seeks to ensure that local governments have the authority and resources needed to provide better services, enhance transparency, and promote democratic practices at the grassroots level.

A Unified Effort for Change

COPPYSM, along with NULGE, ALGON, CSOs, NUT, and NLC, recognizes the urgent need for structural reforms that will decentralize power and strengthen local governance. The coalition's agenda includes:

1. Advocacy and Awareness Campaigns: Engaging the public and raising awareness about the benefits of local government autonomy through media, community outreach, and educational programs.

2. Policy Engagement: Working closely with policymakers, legislators, and government officials to develop and implement policies that support local government autonomy.

3. Public Mobilization: Encouraging citizens to actively participate in the movement by organizing rallies, town hall meetings, and other public forums to discuss and promote the cause.

4. Research and Analysis: Conducting in-depth research to provide data-driven insights and evidence to support the push for autonomy.

5. Capacity Building: Providing training and resources to local government officials to ensure they are well-equipped to handle their newfound responsibilities effectively.

Support for Federal Government and Legislative Actions

Speaking with the National Director General of COPPYSM, Amb. Ibrahim Olawale Seriki, he expresses the coalition's full support  for the Federal Government, both the Executive and Parliament, and advises the Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF) and their respective state assemblies to accept the passage of the constitutional reviews sent to them for the benefit of the masses. The coalition is committed to joining forces in the court case established by the Federal Government against State Governors who stand as obstacles to this development, in alignment with President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.
