NAPS SET 23 OF DECEMBER FOR MASSIVE PROTEST AGAINST NNPCL OVER DISCRIMINATORY POLICY

Press conference organized by the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) to address a pressing issue affecting polytechnic students nationwide.

Ladies and gentlemen of the press, esteemed guests, and fellow students, we gather here today to bring your attention to a discriminatory policy perpetuated by NNPC Limited against Higher National Diploma (HND) holders.

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) strongly condemns this policy, which restricts scholarship opportunities to only Bachelor's degree holders. This unjust and unfair practice denies HND holders their rightful place in the workforce, despite their rigorous academic training and valuable skills.

We want to state categorically that, the planned protest is inevitable on 23rd December, 2024, and we shall continue until NNPCL reconsider this discriminatory policy and adopt a more inclusive approach that recognizes the value of HND holders. We mobilized heavily to storm the Headquarters of NNPCL on 23rd December, 2024 and demand:

1. Immediate suspension of the discriminatory policy

2. Review and revision of recruitment/scholarship policies to ensure fairness and transparency

3. Provision of training and development opportunities for HND holders

We call on the general public, civil society organizations, Polytechnic students and government agencies to join us in condemning this discriminatory policy and advocating for the rights of HND holders.
