INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2025: OBA OF ISHERI OLOFIN COMMEMORATES WITH SSA TO PRESIDENT ON SDGs.

THEME: "ACCELERATE ACTION"

As we mark International Women’s Day 2025, I, HRM Alaiyeluwa Oba Dr. Ibrahim Olasunkanmi Lawal Bello, join the global community in celebrating the strength, resilience, and remarkable contributions of women to our society. Women are the foundation of homes, the pillars of communities, and key drivers of sustainable development.

This year’s theme, "Accelerate Action," calls for an urgent and deliberate approach toward achieving gender equality, economic empowerment, and leadership inclusion for women. While progress has been made, it is evident that barriers still exist in education, politics, the economy, and access to equal opportunities. It is, therefore, our collective duty to take bold and strategic steps to remove these obstacles.

Acknowledging the Efforts of Her Excellency, Princess Adejoke Adefulire Orelope

On this occasion, I commend the tireless efforts of Her Excellency, Princess Adejoke Adefulire Orelope, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), for her unwavering dedication to advancing the rights and empowerment of women and girls in Nigeria.

Through her leadership, we have witnessed significant progress in promoting Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and other key SDGs that uplift women. Her commitment to education, economic empowerment, healthcare, and social inclusion is paving the way for a more equitable society where women can thrive without limitations.

Commitment to Women’s Empowerment and Sustainable Development

As the Oba of Isheri Olofin Kingdom, I reaffirm my commitment to working alongside government agencies, traditional institutions, and private sector stakeholders to accelerate action in:

  • Ensuring access to quality education for girls, especially in rural and underserved communities.
  • Promoting financial inclusion and economic empowerment by supporting women entrepreneurs and providing access to funding and training.
  • Encouraging female leadership and participation in governance to foster inclusive decision-making.
  • Strengthening legal and institutional frameworks to eliminate gender-based violence and discrimination.

A Call for Collective Action

The responsibility of advancing women’s rights and empowerment is not that of the government alone. It requires collaboration from traditional institutions, religious leaders, private organizations, and individuals to create an enabling environment where every woman has equal access to education, opportunities, and leadership roles.

I call upon all leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to move beyond words and take bold, decisive steps to accelerate the progress of women in all spheres of life. Let us work together to ensure that our daughters, wives, and mothers are given the tools and opportunities to lead, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to national development.

As we celebrate this day, let us remember that empowering women means empowering the entire society. When women thrive, families prosper, communities develop, and nations progress.

Together, let us accelerate action for a more just, inclusive, and prosperous Nigeria!

Happy International Women’s Day!
